About the HTML Formatter
The HTML Formatter (also called an HTML beautifier) cleans up markup that is hard to read: code exported from website builders, minified templates, email HTML or snippets copied from the browser's view source. It re-indents every nested element so the document structure becomes obvious at a glance.
It is powered by the widely used open-source js-beautify engine and runs locally in your browser. Choose 2 spaces, 4 spaces or tabs for indentation. Well-formatted HTML makes it much easier to spot unclosed tags, understand layouts, review changes and maintain code with a team.
How to use the HTML Formatter
- Paste your HTML into the input box.
- Choose the indentation style.
- Click Format HTML.
- Copy the beautified markup.
Frequently asked questions
Will formatting change how my page looks?
Formatting only changes whitespace between tags. In rare cases, whitespace between inline elements can create a small visible gap.
Does it fix invalid HTML?
It indents the code but does not repair missing or mismatched tags. Clean indentation does make such errors much easier to find.
Can it format embedded CSS and JavaScript?
Yes. Content inside style and script tags is formatted as well.
