About the Google Drive Direct Link Generator
When you share a file from Google Drive, the link opens a preview page instead of downloading the file. The Google Drive Direct Link Generator converts those share links into direct download links that start the download immediately. They are perfect for download buttons on websites and blogs, email campaigns, app assets, and sharing files with people who find the Drive interface confusing.
The tool also creates an image embed link to show Drive images on web pages with an <img> tag, a thumbnail link, and a preview player / iframe embed code for videos, audio and PDFs. For Google Docs, Sheets and Slides it generates export links that download the document as PDF, Word, Excel, CSV or PowerPoint. Paste several links, one per line, to convert them in bulk.
Important: the file must be shared as "Anyone with the link" in Google Drive, otherwise visitors will see a permission error. The conversion is done with simple URL rules in your browser; no Google API or account is required.
How to use the Google Drive Direct Link Generator
- In Google Drive, right-click the file → Share → set General access to "Anyone with the link" → Copy link.
- Paste one or more links into the box (one per line).
- Click Generate links.
- Copy the direct download, embed or export link you need.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the direct link show a "can't scan for viruses" page?
For files larger than about 100 MB, Google shows a warning page before downloading. Visitors can click "Download anyway". This is a Google Drive limitation for all large files.
Why do people get "access denied"?
The file is not public. Open sharing settings and change General access to "Anyone with the link" with the Viewer role.
Can I convert a folder link?
No. Google Drive does not provide direct download links for folders. Share individual files, or download the folder as a ZIP from Drive and share that file.
Is this tool connected to my Google account?
No. It only transforms the link text in your browser. It never accesses your Drive or files.
