About the Password Generator
Weak and reused passwords are the main cause of hacked accounts. The Password Generator creates truly random passwords using your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (Web Crypto API), the same kind of randomness used for encryption keys. Nothing is sent over the internet or stored.
Choose a length from 4 to 64 characters and the character types to include, and optionally exclude look-alike characters such as l, 1, O and 0 for passwords you need to type by hand. Every password is guaranteed to include at least one character from each selected set. Prefer something memorable? Switch to Passphrase mode for a string of random words like Coral-Lamp-Wind47-Hero-Silk, which is both strong and easy to remember. The strength meter shows entropy in bits and an estimated time to crack.
How to use the Password Generator
- Choose Password or Passphrase mode.
- Set the length or number of words and character options.
- Check the strength meter; aim for Strong or Very strong.
- Copy the password and save it in a password manager.
Frequently asked questions
How long should my password be?
At least 12–16 characters for important accounts. Length adds more security than complexity, so a 20-character password is excellent.
Are passphrases secure?
Yes. Five or more truly random words provide strong security and are much easier to remember and type than random characters.
Is it safe to generate passwords online?
This generator runs entirely in your browser with secure randomness, and nothing is transmitted or saved. You can even use it offline once the page has loaded.
