About the PDF to Text
Copying text out of a PDF often breaks formatting or is blocked altogether. The PDF to Text tool extracts all the readable text from a PDF, page by page, into a clean plain text box where you can copy it or download it as a .txt file.
It is useful for quoting from reports, reusing content from brochures, analyzing documents, feeding text into translation tools or word counters, and making PDF content accessible. It works with digital PDFs created from Word, Google Docs, websites and most software. Scanned PDFs are images of text and would need OCR, so for those the tool tells you that no text was found.
How to use the PDF to Text
- Drop your PDF into the upload area.
- Wait while the text of every page is extracted.
- Toggle page markers on or off.
- Copy the text or download it as a .txt file.
Frequently asked questions
Why is no text extracted from my PDF?
The PDF is probably a scanned image. Text extraction only works when the PDF contains real text; scanned documents require OCR software.
Is the formatting preserved?
Line breaks and paragraphs are kept as closely as possible, but fonts, tables and columns become plain text.
Is it safe to use with confidential documents?
Yes. Your PDF is opened and processed entirely inside your browser. It is never uploaded to our servers, so contracts, bank statements and ID documents stay private.
